A business process in Valtimo is defined as a case definition. A case definition is a comprehensive collection of all the models and configurations required to execute a specific business process. Think of it as a detailed set of instructions that tells Valtimo how to handle and automate the process.

Case definitions are highly portable—they can be exported, shared with others, and deployed across different environments, making them versatile and reusable. Importantly, case definitions do not include custom code; they consist solely of configurations and instructions.

If custom functionality is required, it can be added to Valtimo either as a core enhancement or through the use of plugins. Plugins extend Valtimo’s functionality and must be integrated into the product. This integration requires the product to be recompiled to incorporate the new plugins.
